La construction de bâtiments réalisée en plastic reçoit aujourd'hui un attrait de plus en plus grand auprès des constructeurs et du public. Suite aux premières expériences des années 1940, le plastic est devenu courrant, principalement en raison de son côté transparent ou translucide. De grands architectes issus de l'actuelle avant-garde en ont un usage fréquent.
